The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in implementing video review systems.
Replay systems will be launched at The Championships this year.
Athletes are granted the ability to challenge particular calls made by the chair umpire, echoing the practice currently in place at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
The new system will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This move follows just a season following the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but they can request the official to re-examine other situations, including:
- Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or person during play.
- Potential interference end of a point.
Notably, there will be no limit on the number of challenges a competitor can request.
A Recent Example
An illustrative case took place in a recent tournament recently, where a top player used the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his opponent had "played the rules effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
This technology are not exclusive to Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.
Other Changes
A further change at Wimbledon this year involves the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where fans have sometimes been uncertain whether a shot was out or in.
In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, the AELTC have further revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
